About The
Gala Band
News
We have
just been signed to the the Bristol, Oxford and Leeds
based Dreamboat Records who are releasing our debut
E.P Little
Revelations, which
is currently being mixed by Jim Moray and will be
released on 30 July, 2007.
Hello and welcome to our myspace page.
Here's a little about how
we got here: we (Hannah and Ben) started playing and
writing music together several years ago, for a bit
of fun. After a few months we decided to take things
a little further by performing at some small venues
and open mics around Bristol as Hannah and Her
Sisters. One night Hannah went to the pub and bumped
into an old school friend, Jon Fisher (except she was
convinced his name was Simon). Jon was a drummer. We
invited him along to play with us and after a short
while we decided to make it official. Hannah and Her
Sisters were no more. We became a new band. The Gala
Band. After a short time as just the three of us we
were lucky enough to acquire a tremendous bass player
in the form of Everton.
We are going to use this page to post up a mixture of
tracks recorded with the whole band (demo 'No. 1')
and other 'works in progress' which are still being
fiddled with. We hope you like what you hear.
The
Gala Band are an emotive piano/ acoustic guitar/
alt-pop/ folk 4 piece from Bristol. Their music is a
carefully blended mix, from quirky, gentle and
meaningful songs, to striking, powerful epics. The
beautiful female vocals, looping guitars and
carefully crafted songs created by an established
song writing duo are what make this group stand out
as something a little different. Regularly compared
to the likes of Cat Power, Elbow, Regina Spector and
Fiona Apple you can begin to build a picture of what
you might get from the band. Their inspirations are
drawn from a spectrum covering Miles Davis to Elliot
Smith, Eliza Carthy to The Ghost Busters sound track
and everything in between. Quite a mixed bag!

About The
Dharma Bums
The Dharma Bums are a
7-piece band based in Plymouth. We utilise a van-load
of instruments to produce original
progressive-intense-folk-rock material, with
influences ranging from Van Morrison and Joanna
Newsom to Bright Eyes and Radiohead. Over the last 6
months we have played numerous venues around the
south west and south coast, receiving extremely
positive feedback and reviews. If you haven't seen us
yet then please check out our band calendar and come
along.
